CUHK Pre-Incubation Centre

The CUHK Pi Centre is a universi­ty-wide initiative to stimulate creativity and entrepreneurship by offering up to one year of working space, facilities and mentoring services to teams of students starting companies to commercialize technologies and implement innovative business models for profit and for the benefit of society. Through the Pi Centre, CUHK aims to increase the number and impact of sustainable, socially responsible enterprises that integrate theoretical knowledge, enthusiasm and market discipline to create value, with a goal to unleash the creative potential from across the campus. It is located at Lady Ho Tung Hall, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Empowering Young Entrepreneurs Program

The Empowering Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) Program is a year-long entrepreneurship program launched by Google and CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship, aiming to encourage local youngsters to innovate and promote Hong Kong as a city for entrepreneurship. Achievements: - Google’s Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt, announced the program in Hong Kong in November 2013 - Over 900 applications to the EYE Program - Participants are Hong Kong youngsters aged 18-35 with a passion for entrepreneurship and innovation - 600 participants and VIP guests attended a kick-off event on a Sunday afternoon in February 2014 - 148 business proposals have been submitted, 80 teams (201 individuals) presented in front of a panel of 24 judges at Presentation Day on June 7, 2014; over 90% of the proposals were completely new business ideas - 4 industry mixers, 12 training sessions, 3 speaker nights, and training to mentors as well as mentees are hosted. Average age of participants of the 80 teams is 28, and 40% have had entrepreneurial experience - 40 teams (98 individuals) were selected to receive one-on-one mentorship from June to November 2014 - 6 outstanding teams together with mentors, media, and influencers visited Silicon Valley for a week in October 2014 - Google and CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship released a new study called “Entrepreneurship Ecosystem of Hong Kong” to identify the growth and challenges in Hong Kong’s startup ecosystem, and to generate enthusiasm and support for aspiring entrepreneurs. (interim report released in September 2014, final report to be released in November 2014) - Over 250 guests including EYE Program teams and mentors, business leaders, founders and entrepreneurs in Hong Kong attended "The beginning of an end: a celebration with Hong Kong startups and the EYE Program community” event on November 26, 2014, calling for a more connected entrepreneurial ecosystem to boost innovation.

HKSEC

Since 2007, the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge (HKSEC), a social venture business plan competition organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been at the frontier in educating students and the general public about social enterprises in Hong Kong. Through a structured competition model, HKSEC encourages students to employ a creative entrepreneurial approach to solve real world social issues. As of June 2013, HKSEC is the first and only inter-collegiate social venture business competition in Hong Kong. Over 3,900 students from 24 institutions have had the opportunities to showcase their creative ideas and desire of being a change agent in our society by joining this competition. They have generated over 600 business ideas for social enterprise.
